Decades of storytelling in Dalmatia

Since the eighties, since I've been in tourism, I've been constantly hearing stories about different adventures, legends, customs. Again and again we were told and trained how these stories should be passed on to tourists.

I remember how we used to stop by tobacco fields to see, touch and smell the plant, I remember how we presented freshly baked bread that had just come out of the ashes under the bell, I remember going into the village and showing to tourists an old mill that was still working, the landlady would bake sweetly and the master of the house would flaunt his wooden statues, a real naive art.

When I was a child, I remember how mostly old men would invite tourists to come into their small boats and take them to the other side of the bay or to a nice beach.

Sponges, shells, stones, even today you can see children selling wonderful natural objects to tourists.

All of this is storytelling of its kind. Every smile from the boatman,  every natural object sold, given or collected represents some beautiful, even romantic stories in distant lands about our coast, our people and customs.
